The illegal encroachments from the National Highway in Jeypore of Koraput district will be cleared and a task force at sub-divisional level will be constituted. Such decision has been taken by the joint committee of the administration. As per the decision, high-power cameras will also be installed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the people and commuters were facing problems due to encroachments and illegal parking by heavy vehicles. A report in this regard was also telecast by OTV on March 9, 2024.

Apart from clearing encroachments and illegal parking, it has also been decided at the joint committee meeting chaired by Sub-Collector to clear other encroachments from other parts of the town.

As per the decision, the illegal kiosks and parking will be cleared from Bariniput to District Headquarters Hospital and from Deoghati to Jeypore ghati. Senior officials of the district administration, police, NHAI and others will be part of the eviction process. Moreover, hefty fines will be imposed on the violators if they re-enroach after the eviction drive.

All the garages which have come up on encroached land will also be evicted. Letters have been issued to showroom owners, garage owners, private bus owners’ and truck owners’ associations in this regard.

Prabhat Parida, Jeypore Sub-Collector said, “Through the meeting and media, we have issued directions to Tehsildar to not only clear the encroachments in front of the district headquarters hospital, but also to clear encroachments from other parts of the town by deploying field functionaries.”

RTO Rajesh Kumar Marandi said, “Our state drivers are not aware of the navigating on the steep ghati. We will create awareness on speed limit and proper signages will be installed.”

According to Marandi, enforcement team has been instructed to seize vehicles for overloading. "We want to deploy interceptors at ghat so that appropriate action can be taken against the vehicles for overspeeding," he said.
