4 killed in car collision in Odisha’s Koraput
Koraput witnessed a tragic road accident late on Saturday night following collision between two cars on NH 26 near the HAL Guest House in Sunabeda, leaving four persons dead and several others injured. The accident occurred around 11:30 pm when one car was travelling from Koraput to Damanjodi and the other from Similiguda to Sunabeda.
According to reports, the collision took place after a motorbike suddenly came between the two approaching vehicles, causing both to crash into each other. The impact was so severe that one of the vehicles flipped over with its wheels facing upwards, while the other was left completely mangled. The intensity of the crash left local residents in shock and disbelief.
Of the four persons travelling in one of the vehicles, one person died on the spot and later two succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Koraput hospital on Sunday morning. The fourth occupant was critically injured and has been shifted to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam. One of the deceased has been identified as Asutosh Rana, a youth employed at a company in Pune. The identity of other deceased persons is yet to be ascertained.
The driver of the other vehicle also died in the accident, while other passengers suffered injuries and were admitted to hospital.
Three of the victims are said to be residents of Ganjam Colony in Sunabeda and the other hailed from Mathalput area.
Police have begun an investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision.
