Death of another Nepali girl student in KIIT University: Nepal Embassy urges for independent and impartial probe

After the tragic death of another Nepali girl student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, the Nepal Embassy has taken serious note of the incident.

In a statement, the Embassy informed that it received information on the night of May 1, 2025, that an 18-year-old Nepali student, Prisha Sah, who was enrolled in the first year of undergraduate studies at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in the Indian state of Odisha, was found hanging in her hostel room.

On getting information about the incident, the Embassy contacted and held discussions with representatives of the institution, police authorities, officials from the Ministry of External Affairs of India, and other concerned parties. 

Nepal Embassy Demands Impartial Probe

The Embassy of Nepal on Friday urged an independent and impartial investigation of the incident and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all Nepali students studying at the KIIT university.

The Embassy has also received necessary instructions from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister regarding this matter.

In connection with this incident, Ambassador Dr. Shankar Sharma contacted the Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, and the Chief Secretary of the state, expressing grief over the incident and requesting an impartial investigation.

Embassy Coordinating With Nepali Students At KIIT, Summons Varsity Officials

The Embassy is in continuous contact and coordination with Nepali students at KIIT University, the Central Government of India, the Office of the Chief Minister of Odisha, and other relevant Indian authorities. Additionally, this morning, the Embassy summoned representatives from the University to gather more information about the incident.

The Embassy is also maintaining regular contact with the bereaved family of the deceased. The Embassy expresses deep condolences to the grieving family and prays for eternal peace for the soul of the late Prisha Sah.

Meanwhile, KIIT officials in a tweet wrote,  "We deeply mourn for the untimely demise of our beloved student, Ms. Prisha Sah. Today, all senior functionaries of KIIT gathered, expressed their heartfelt condolences and stand in solidarity with her family, friends, and the student community. May her soul rest in peace."
