Kandhamal district's Urmagada Waterfall, one of the region's prime tourist attractions, is facing significant neglect despite being officially recognized and developed by the Odisha government. Over time, due to lack of proper maintenance, the site has deteriorated, raising concerns among visitors and locals alike.

The once-pristine location is now marred by broken structures and scattered waste. Many essential facilities have fallen into disrepair, with cement peeling off from structures, stones becoming exposed, and locks hanging on abandoned gates.

In some places, stagnant garbage has accumulated in the water sources, further diminishing the site's appeal. Visitors have expressed their disappointment over the declining state of this natural marvel.

Initiatives Taken In The Past

The Odisha government had earlier invested heavily in beautifying the surroundings of Urmagada Waterfall. Initiatives such as a solar-powered water supply and seating arrangements for visitors were implemented to enhance the site's attractiveness. However, in the absence of regular upkeep, these amenities are now in a dilapidated state. The lack of administrative attention to this issue has drawn criticism from various quarters.
