According to sources, a major controversy has erupted in the Bolangir district of Odisha after a NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) rank mismatch derailed the career hopes of a meritorious student.

Abhipsa Aparajita Satpathy from Talapalipada locality had originally scored 506 marks in the June 16 results, which placed her rank at 46,172. Encouraged by her score, she registered for counseling on July 24 via the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) website, hoping to secure a seat in a private medical college.

However, on July 29, after OJEE published the final list, Aparajita and her family members were stunned to discover that her NEET score had inexplicably dropped to 176, and her rank had plummeted to 9,16,867. This massive discrepancy effectively eliminated her chances of admission.

The family claims they repeatedly contacted NEET authorities but received no meaningful clarification. Distraught over the lack of resolution, they have now issued a threat of self-immolation if justice is not served. The mental stress, uncertainty, and silence from official channels have taken a heavy toll on the student and her family.

As of now, no official response has come from the NEET or the NTA (National Testing Agency), further deepening the crisis.

“Probably they (NTA) are doing some scam. Even when I contacted the OJEE office, they rather blamed me, saying that I had edited my marks and changed them. If at all I had to edit the marks, why should I change it to ‘506’ and not anything more to secure a seat in a government college, which requires at least ‘500 to 575’ or above marks,” the girl said.

“I had also contacted the NTA authorities. They told me, ‘lakhs of candidates are appearing for the exam and we are not responsible for a few of them’. Ultimately, they are blaming me,” the girl lamented while speaking to OTV.

It is worth mentioning that on July 27, two more NEET aspirants from Odisha had also raised serious concerns about discrepancies in their results, accusing the NTA of major technical errors that drastically altered their scores and ranks after system updates.
