It was a close shave for nearly 26 students of a coaching centre after the bus they were travelling in met with an accident near Acharya Vihar Square in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

As per initial reports, the bus hit the road median after the driver lost control of the steering wheel. It is alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

“We knew that the driver was drunk. But we did not have any idea that something like this will happen. First, the bus hit the road divider and later a tree,” said a student.

Another student said, “The driver had hit twice while reversing inside school premises. The driver was driving in a rash manner on the road. While overtaking a vehicle, the bus hit the divider. There were around 21 to 22 students. We have already lodged a complaint with the concerned coaching centre authorities about the incident.”

“We are not feeling safe now to travel in the bus. Some students had even warned us when we saw that he was driving in a rash manner,” said another student.

A guardian said, “No doubt accident can happen to anyone. But if the driver had consumed alcohol, it is a serious offence. The management should always appoint good drivers. If the driver commits such an offence, what can we do.”

Meanwhile, no comments have been received from the coaching centre authorities.
