The Nandankanan Zoological Park is going to get Hoolock Gibbons and Leopard Cats as new inmates. These animals will be brought from the Itanagar Biological Park in Arunachal Pradesh under an animal exchange programme.

The Itanagar zoo on the other hand will get a pair of tigers and gharial from the Nandankanan in exchange.

The animal exchange programme between Nandankanan and Itanagar Biological Park was approved by the Central Zoo Authority.

As per the approved programme, Nandankanan will give one pair of tiger (Rocky & Sohani) and three (1 male, 2 female) gharials to Itanagar Zoo. In return, they will give one pair of Hoolock Gibbons and one pair of Leopard Cats to Nandankanan.

As per reports, representatives from the Itanagar Zoo have already reached Nandankanan in order to receive the animals.

The said animals will be transported from Nandankanan tomorrow (Friday). They are scheduled to reach Itanagar on July 18.

In order to receive the animals from Itanagar Zoo, a team under the leadership ACF, Dr RR Swain has been formed. The team will leave for Itanagar tomorrow.

Animals from Itanagar are expected to reach Nandankanan by July 25.

Nandankanan authorities said that after shifting of a pair of tigers and gharials, 27 tigers and 105 Gharials will remain in the zoo.
