Naba Das murder case: FBI help not sought by Odisha government?

The Odisha government did not send any proposal seeking the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States of America in Naba Das assassination case, the Ministry of Home Affairs informed.

While responding to an RTI query, the Ministry of Home Affairs clarified the same.

In a letter to Laxminarayan Kanungo of Bhubaneswar, who sought information through RTI regarding CM seeking FBI help in the investigation of Naba Das murder case, the Ministry of Home Affairs said, “Proposal for the issue of Letter Rogatory/Mutual Legal Assistance not received from Odisha govt in legal cell w.r.t. investigation relating to the murder of Naba Das.'

Earlier on Feb 22, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had made a statement in the Odisha Assembly that the State Crime Branch is seeking the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the USA. 

“We have requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to facilitate an evaluation of behaviour of the accused by the FBI,” he had said in a statement in Odisha Assembly. 

Meanwhile, no response has been received from the State government in this regard.
