The mystery surrounding the death of a Class 10 girl student in Mahanga of Cuttack has deepened further after a letter and a purported audio of a BJD leader went viral on social media. The girl student had died on June 16 under mysterious circumstances and it is alleged that her body was disposed of in haste without the conduct of a post-mortem.

The matter came to light only after the audio of BJD leader and former Mahanga block chairman Sarat Nayak went viral. The audio is said to be the conversation between Nayak and the mother of a teacher with whom the minor girl allegedly had some relationship.

The minor girl allegedly committed suicide after her family came to know about the incident. In the viral audio, Nayak can be heard telling the concerned teacher’s mother that the body of the girl has been disposed of and the evidence destroyed without conducting the post-mortem on the advice of the police.

Nayak also allegedly demanded Rs 70,000 from the teacher’s mother, as per the viral audio conversation.

Subrat Dash, state president ‘Naya Pain Ladhei Parivar’ said, “An audio clip has now gone viral on social media. The minor girl had died under mysterious circumstances. Former block chairman Sarat Nayak’s audio message with a woman has gone viral on social media. In the audio, it can be heard that the half-burnt body of the girl was subsequently disposed of in the river."

Dash further said that they have also lodged a written complaint in connection with the incident with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

“No post-mortem was done and IIC of Mahanga Police Station and Salepur SDPO have tried to suppress the matter. Former law minister Pratap Jena’s associate Sarat Nayak is the mastermind,” alleged Dash.

When contacted, Nayak said, “I might have spoken with the woman. Under what circumstances I have told such things, I do not give any importance to it. Do whatever you can.”

State BJP Vice-President, Lekhashree Samantsinghar met Odisha DGP and demanded stern action in connection with the incident.

“Since I have handled the entire incident, give me Rs 70,000, Sarat Nayak can be heard saying. We have brought the matter to the notice of Odisha DGP and he has assured us to take action. This incident is a glaring example of the deteriorating law and order situation in Odisha,” said Samantsinghar.

Meanwhile, no police complaint has been lodged by the deceased girl’s family in this regard. The father of the deceased said that attempts are being made to malign his daughter.

No comments could be obtained from senior officials of Odisha Police in connection with the sensitive matter.
