MPs leaving would affect party, introspection needed: Senior BJD leader

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Senior BJD leader Amar Prasad Satpathy expressed concern over key leaders like former Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar joining BJP. He emphasized the need for self-introspection within the party. BJP MLA Babu Singh welcomed Sujeet Kumar, stating that political members are free and cannot be caged.

Our party is a big organisation. If any member leaves, it would hardly affect the party. But if MPs leave, it would definitely affect the party, senior BJD leader Amar Prasad Satpathy said on Saturday.

Satpathy’s statement came in the wake of BJD's former Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar joining BJP on Friday.

Expressing his concern, Satpathy said why key leaders are leaving the party is to be analysed.

“In the present situation, self-introspection is necessary. It is to be analysed why those who were once working actively are leaving the party. If they who have been sent to the Parliament are leaving the party, it would definitely be detrimental to the party,” said the BJD leader.

On the other hand, without taking the name of BJD, BJP MLA Babu Singh said the members of political leaders can’t be caged like parrots and mynas.

“The members of political parties are free. None can shackle them. They have the freedom of speech and work. If they (political parties) are trying to cage them (their members) like parrots and mynas, they won’t succeed. We welcome BJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar who recently quit his party and joined BJP. BJP is the largest party in the world. A seat in our party is always reserved for them who love the country, state and people,” said Singh.

It is to be mentioned here that before Sujeet Kumar, Mamata Mohanta had quit BJD and joined BJP.
