BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi on Thursday informed that the Centre has sanctioned 9.59 lakh units of houses to Odisha under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the allocation.

Addressing a presser, Sarangi said that out of the total house sanctioned, 1.42 lakh are for those affected by extremely severe cyclonic Fani that hit the State in 2019. She said 10,147 houses have been allocated for Khordha district under the scheme.

The IAS-turned-politician said that the PM Modi-led union government has granted Rs 7,250 crore for the construction of the houses in the State under the housing scheme.

“Many people do not have a roof over their heads. Therefore, we have to issue work orders as soon as possible. Through you, I would like to request the State government to issue work orders to eligible beneficiaries. It will be our collective demand,” Sarangi said.

“I would request the government to ensure that 9.59 lakh beneficiaries get work orders by February. This is a vital issue which needs the attention of the government,” she added.

She thanked the government of India, the department minister, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allocating 10,147 houses for Khorda district.

“I would reiterate that the State government must ensure issuing work orders to beneficiaries in Khordha and other 29 districts by February this year. Moreover, the work orders must be given in a transparent manner,” she signed off.
