Mortal remains of Nilanchal Patel of Assam Rifles arrived at his native village Baghapali under Bheden Block of Bargarh district on Monday.

The jawan was martyred after a patrolling van he was travelling in met with an accident in Manipur on Friday night.

The entire district bid a tearful adieu to the jawan. After reaching Bargarh district, the flower-decked van carrying the mortal remains went to the Collector’s office where the district Collector and other officials offered floral tributes to the jawan. Then the van proceeded straight to Baghapali.

The atmosphere turned sombre as the whole village turned up at the cremation ground to offer their last tribute to the jawan. There were emotional scenes all around the cremation ground where his last rites were performed with full state honours.

Earlier on August 11, Sushant Khuntia, a CRPF jawan was killed during a gunfight between the Naxals and security personnel in Jharkhand. Khuntia’s last rites were performed at his native town Anandapur in Keonjhar district on August 12.
