Monsoon preparedness: BMC Mayor orders de-siltation of drains

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor, Sulochana Das on Monday issued directions to finish the ongoing drain construction & de-silting work before the onset of the Monsoon. 

Keeping the coming rainy season in view, a review meeting was held at the BMC office today. The corporators of 67 wards, officials of the engineering department, R & B department, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) took part in the meeting. 

After the meeting, Das informed that directions have been issued to construct barricades near open drains and complete the de-silting work of all the main drains in the city within a week. Similarly, direction has also been issued to complete the de-silting work of all the feeder-drains by June 25, she added. 

The corporators have been asked to make sure that the under-construction projects in their respective wards are completed before the onset of monsoon, informed sources.
