Mo Bus
In a significant move, the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) on Saturday suspended a 'Mo Bus' driver and conductor after they were allegedly found drunk during duty hours.
The CRUT has also decided to start routine breath analyser tests to curb reckless driving by drunk ‘Mo Bus’ drivers. The tests will be conducted regularly, both at the starting point and during the journey for each of the drivers of ‘Mo Bus’ to detect alcohol consumption.
The moves come after allegations that several accidents were being caused due to reckless driving by Mo Bus drivers.
Moreover, CRUT has warned to revoke the license of errant drivers if they are found driving in an inebriated state. The license would be suspended for six months and the drivers would be debarred from their jobs, the CRUT warned.
A day back, Orissa High Court had expected CRUT to install cameras in the buses to monitor reckless driving, use sensors to detect whether the drivers are intoxicated, and if anything suspicious is noticed in the control room from the drivers’ eye movement, necessary instructions should be passed immediately.
The Court has also directed CRUT authorities to issue instructions to the drivers and conductors to stop the buses only at designated places, as halting indiscriminately is creating traffic congestion.
