The authorities of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur terminated four doctors including an assistant professor posted on a contractual basis in connection with an alleged ragging incident.
The MKCG hospital authorities have also debarred a PG second-year student from entering the hostel for six months in connection with the case.
The action from the MKCG authorities came following a College Council meeting and directive from the Directorate of Medical Education And Training (DMET), Odisha after a postgraduate student of the premier health institute accused the seniors of assaulting and lodged a formal complaint in this regard.
As per the official notification, Dr. Purushottam Swain, Asst. Professor, Dr. Aryan Kumar Mohanty, and Dr. Chinmay Pradhan, from Orthopedics who were posted on a contractual basis, have been terminated with immediate effect.
Similarly, Dr.Yashwant Veera, a Post PG Sr. Resident, Department of General Surgery has also been suspended with immediate effect. Dr.Priyajeet Sahoo, a second-year PG Resident from the Department of Orthopedics has been debarred for six months from the hostel.

Dean Suchitra Das informed that the decision was taken after the College Council meeting held on December 23 as well as directives from the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET).
On December 20, a postgraduate student from MKCG Medical College and Hospital alleged that he was assaulted by senior students within Hostel Number-3 premises. The incident came to light last Sunday after a formal complaint was lodged at Baidyanathpur Police Station.

Notably, similar allegations of ragging also surfaced on December 2 when a junior doctor claimed he was mentally and physically tortured for refusing to do tasks forced by his seniors.
