The body of a class five student, who went missing on Saturday, was found with slit throat near a pond in Purbakacha village under Jagatpur police station limits in Cuttack district on Sunday.

According to sources, the victim’s parents scolded him as he was not focusing on his studies. The victim went out of the house but did not return. As he did not return for a long time, his parents searched for him. However, their efforts went in vain as they failed to get his whereabouts.

This morning, the locals found the body of the missing minor boy lying in a bushy area near the pond.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter.

“Yesterday, the boy’s mother scolded him as he was not focusing on his studies. Then he went out of his home and did not return. Today, we found his body near the pond. We have no enmity with anyone in the village. This kind of incident has happened in the village for the first time. We want the accused to be nabbed at the earliest,” said the relative of the victim.

“We got information that the body of a 12-year-old boy was found near a village pond. Seeing the cut marks on the body it is suspected to be a case of murder. We have started an investigation into the matter,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Arun Swain.
