Mishap during Ganesh Visarjan in Odisha: 1 dies of electrocution, another critical

A youth died of electrocution while another sustained serious burn injuries after they came in contact with a live electric wire during Ganesh Visarjan at Jagannathpur village under Purushottampur police limits in Ganjam district.

The deceased was identified as Pabitra Sahu. The injured person was rescued with severe burn injuries and rushed to Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital where his condition remains critical.

According to sources, the incident occurred when the Ganesh procession with DJ and music was passing through the village on Wednesday. The vehicle was passing through the village when the youths spotted the 11kv electric wire hanging.

In a bid to put the live wire away, the two youths came in contact with it and were electrocuted, leading to one’s death on the spot. On being informed, Purushottampur police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

The body was then sent for autopsy. A probe into the incident is on, police said.
