At least two workers died while five others were injured in a mishap at Orissa Metaliks Private Limited (OMPL) plant at Budhipadar in Odisha's Jharsuguda district on Tuesday.

As per initial reports, the mishap occurred after the structure at the plant collapsed on the workers. The incident occurred at 12 pm today when the labourers were working at the site.

“I was in the store when the mishap occurred. We rushed to the spot and saw the filter press plates had fallen down. Using cranes, we rescued some labourers. Two labourers have died and 5 others are injured,” said Sudarsan, a staff.

Another staff said, “We rushed to the spot only after getting information about the incident. The entire structure collapsed.”

Following the incident, five other labourers, who sustained critical injuries in the mishap, have been admitted to a private hospital. Senior police officials rushed to the spot after getting information about the incident.

It is alleged that a lack of adherence to safety measures at various plants in Jharsuguda has always remained neglected.

Meanwhile, no comments could be obtained from the concerned plant officials in connection with the mishap.
