Throwing an open challenge to the Commissionerate Police, some unidentified miscreants allegedly looted lakhs of rupees along with gold and silver jewellery from four flats of Vishal Garden apartment located at Uttara Chhak in Bhubaneswar late on Saturday night.
After a brief lull, the miscreants again targeted the apartment and decamped with the valuables, raising questions over the efficiency of urban policing in the State capital.
Taking advantage of the absence of the occupants, the looters broke open the doors of the flats and looted cash and other expensive items including jewellery from the apartments, sources said.
“When we bought the flats, we thought it would be safe for us. But after this loot incident, we are not feeling safe anymore. The miscreants have targeted three flats which are locked for days as their occupants stay outside,” said a flat owner in the apartment.

“I stay here for six months and spend the rest of the year outside. But after this, I don’t feel it will be wise to go outside leaving my home at risk,” she added.
Echoing the same, another occupant of a flat in the apartment said, “We buy flats taking the safety and security of our parents into consideration as we work outside. But such incidents are posing a serious threat to the safety of the elders.”
No comments from the police could be obtained over the matter.
