At least 500 grams of gold ornaments worth lakhs were reportedly looted from a scientist’s flat in an apartment in Chandaka area, Bhubaneswar. The scientist was visiting his son in Europe when the miscreants broke into his house and committed the crime.

Interestingly, the robbers didn’t touch the laptop, mobile phone, and iPad of the scientist. Moreover, they left his ATM cards untouched and only looted the gold.

“We were supposed to stay a month more with our son. We had our return tickets on October 12. But, we were informed about the loot on September 12 and had to fly back home. Our neighbour informed us about the loot,” said the senior scientist Narayan Parida.

“Usually, our maid comes here for the cleaning. She spotted the broken lock and alerted our neighbours who informed us,” he added.

“They have not taken anything except for the gold. Interestingly, they have not taken away my electronic gadgets like laptops, iPads, and mobile phones. Moreover, they have not even touched my ATM card,” he further stated.

“All the gold ornaments were given by my wife’s parents during our marriage. Over the period, we had also bought a few grams and gold coins,” he added.

“We had been to Europe to visit our son from July 17. We were supposed to return on October 12. Meanwhile, the thieves have looted our house. They have taken away at least 500gm gold ornaments kept in the house. This was all our life savings,” said Narayan’s wife.

As per reports, another theft bid by some miscreants wearing masks at an apartment in the Trisulia area, Cuttack on Friday night has been recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the nearby area.

Following these incidents, serious questions are being raised over the security measures in the apartments.

Homeowners in the apartment reportedly hit the streets on Saturday demanding proper security arrangements.
