In a heart-wrenching incident, a little boy and girl were found begging from door to door to raise funds for performing the post-death rituals of their father at Pahana village under Basta block in Balasore district on Monday.

The incident has shocked several residents of the area as the little children are forced to beg at a tender age when they should have studied and played.

As per reports, Rabindra Mukhi’s family has been living in a polythene-covered thatched house in the village. Rabindra was working hard to earn a living for his five-member family including his wife, two children and their grandmother.

However, tragedy struck the family when Rabindra passed away after suffering from an unknown disease a week ago. He was the only earning member of their family. The family now finds it hard even to make both ends meet. As per the age-old custom, they have to perform the post-death rituals of Rabindra as well.

Without having any alternative, the little children decided to beg from door to door in their area to raise funds to perform their father’s post-death ritual.

“Our father passed away by suffering from an unknown disease. We have no alternative now but to beg from door to door to perform his post-death rituals,” said Prabhati Mukhi, Rabindra’s daughter.

Meanwhile, the little children have expressed their desire to continue studying and fulfill the dream of their father.

“After my husband’s death, we are completely helpless now. I have two little children. We are clueless about how to make our ends meet. They are now forced to beg to perform their father’s death rituals,” said Ashamani Mukhi, Rabindra’s wife.

Local residents have demanded that the government extends help to the poor family for their sustenance.

“The poor family has become completely helpless after the death of the only earning member of their family. The government should extend its helping hand to them,” said Barun Mukhi, a villager.
