Tragedy struck as a girl aged about 10 went missing in a river while taking a bath with her cousin sister at Rama Patna village under Sadar police limits in Kendrapara on Friday. 

According to a source, two cousin sisters, daughters of Babaji Sahu and Santosh Sahu, had gone to the nearby Gobari River to have a bath. While bathing, their feet might have slipped and they drowned.

Upon getting information, family members and villagers rushed to the river and could rescue one. After rescuing her, they immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, they continued the operation. Later fire department personnel joined them. After sunset, the operation had to be stopped due to darkness. 

“Our two girls had gone to the river to have a bath. While bathing, two went missing. However, we could rescue one. We can’t say if she has been washed away,” said a local resident Prafulla Mallick.
