Tension ran high in Sambalpur as a minor boy was killed after being hit by a bus near Laxmi Talkies. Soon after the incident, tension flared up at the spot as irate locals staged a protest. In a bid to bring the situation under control, police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

As per reports, the victim, a student of class-IX was going on a scooter to a medicine shop to bring medicines for his mother when the bus knocked him down. The boy died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Dishan Nayak of Ambedkar Nagar.

Immediately after the accident, hundreds of local people swarmed to the site, clamouring for action against the driver. The locals shouted slogans and opposed the movement of buses on the crowded route in the evening. They staged a roadblock demanding action. 

Police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitators. However, the situation turned tense as police tried to vacate the spot. This led to a confrontation between agitators and police, forcing the police to resort to a lathi-charge. 

Meanwhile, the bus was seized while its driver was detained.
