Once again the 'killer' manja kite string is wreaking havoc in Odisha. This time a 7-year-old boy sustained critical injuries in Balasore.

As per initial reports, the victim was travelling with his father on a motorcycle when his throat got slit by the manja string on the road near Naharpatna under Sadar Police limits. Following the incident, the minor boy was first treated at Balasore and subsequently shifted to Cuttack hospital in critical condition.

Despite the ban in several parts of Odisha, the deadly manja and plastic strings are being available and used to fly kites.

Earlier, two bikers were injured after they were entangled by a China-made kite string (manja) on the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack road near Balikuda on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

The bike rider suffered a cut in his neck. Similarly, the pillion rider sustained severe injuries in his hands and palms. Both the injured were subsequently rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
