Ahead of Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 which will commence on January 13, Berhampur-based miniature artist Satya Narayan Maharana has come up with the smallest hockey stick of the world.

It took 30 minutes for Satya to create two miniature hockey sticks made of wood. While the height of one stick is 5 mm and width 1 mm, the size of the other one is 1 cm in height and 1 mm in width.

He is hopeful that his artwork would register as the smallest hockey stick in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Known for creating smallest artefacts in different mediums, Satya has 25 international and national records to his credit.

Talking to OTV, Satya said, “I am from Berhampur, Ganjam. I have created world’s smallest hockey sticks which have been made of wood. While the size of the hockey stick is 1 cm in height and 1 mm in width, the height of another stick is 5 mm and width 1 mm. As Odisha is hosting Hockey World Cup this year, being an artiste it would be my way of wishing luck to all the hockey players.”

It is learnt that students of the state government run Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Berhampur have prepared  world’s largest hockey stick and hockey ball with scrap iron.

The students have made the longest/tallest hockey stick using scraps of vehicles, motor parts, cycle chains and cranks. The students aim at entering the Guinness Book of World Records with the tallest hockey sticks.

It took at least a week for the students of all departments- fitter, welder, painter and electrician- to join hands and give a finishing touch to the unique innovation.
