Mines dept conducts massive raids on mines, stone quarries in Jajpur

Odisha Mines department on Friday launched massive raids on mines and stone quarries at Dharmasala in Jajpur district. The raids were conducted at Lunibar, Chadheidhar and Dankari mining areas.

The raids are being conducted following allegations by Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sahoo that there have been massive irregularities in mining operations during the previous BJD government. The MLA said that stern action would be taken against those involved in illegal activities.

“Earlier, there were allegations of irregularities during the previous government’s term. We had written to Director of Minor Minerals, Collector, Revenue department for a detailed investigation,” said Sahoo.

Mines Department, Joint Director NN Singhdeo said, “We have come here to inspect based on the written complaint filed by the MLA. The Directorate of Minor Minerals has constituted a team. After prima facie input, we will recommend for further inquiry. The probe will ascertain whether there has been excess mining or not and whether laws were followed or not. Survey and other things will be taken up later.”

No comments could be obtained from the BJD over the allegations levelled by the Dharmasala MLA.
