A MEMU passenger train derailed near Sarala reportedly after hitting a buffalo in the evening on Wednesday. 

As per reports received from Railway sources, a buffalo entered the track suddenly while the train was travelling on the Sarla-Sambalpur section. The train hit the animal, leading to the derailment of four wheels of a coach of 08169 Jharsuguda -Sambalpur MEMU Passenger Special. The accident took place at 06.25 pm, said sources.

However, till the time of filing of this report, no injuries or casualties were reported. According to the PRO of the Sambalpur Railway division, there is no report of injury or casualty after the train derailment.

The Railways has started restoration work which will take two hours. The Divisional Railway Manager of Sambalpur along with a team reached the spot. They started restoration work soon after an accident relief train carrying relief materials for track restoration reached the spot along with medical equipment.

The derailed coach of the MEMU train was lifted out from the track. After nearly two hours of restoration work, the train resumed its journey, Railways sources said.
