Meet a family in which both father and son are champions but daughter is a super champion. They are all gold medal winners in power-lifting. 

Jeypore-based powerlifter Biswanath Nayak and his 18-years-old son Bibek and 11-year old daughter Baibhabi are scripting success story by winning medals after medals in powerlifting.

Following the footprints of their father Biswanath, Bibek and Baibhabi are adding feathers in their caps in powerlifting.

Hailing from Soura Sahi in Jeypore town, Biswanath, Bibek and Baibhabi have become the talk of the town for binging laurel for the state.

Of late, the father-son-daughter trio earned kudos for winning gold medals at state-level powerlifting competition held at Rayagada. 

Biswanath was on cloud nine for performing with his kids at a same platform. 

Biswanth said, “When I was pursuing Plus II, I had developed interest for powerlifting and started practicing it. However, I had failed to secure any position. Now, my happiness knows no bounds when I play with my son and daughter.”

It is learnt that the father-son-daughter trio practice powerlifting every morning at home.  Biswanth dons the role of their teacher during practice session.   Hours of practice by trio has helped them win medals at Rayagada.

Earlier, the father-daughter duo have won gold medals in a single event but different age groups in Railways’ Odisha State Championship held in Bhubaneswar. 

While Biswanath won gold medal under 77 kg Master’s category at the Championship, but under 55 kg below 14 age category in the same event Baibhabi also bagged gold medal. 

Both the father-daughter duo was felicitated on the same dais. And now, Bibek has joined them and surprised everyone by bagging gold medal in his debut match. 

Bibek said, “As we all belong to a family, we are all happy for our achievement. I too got a gold medal in my debut match. I have plans to play for national and international powerlifting matches.”
