Tension gripped Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla after a PG student and security guard suffered injuries in a scuffle in the wee hours of Thursday. 

According to the police, a PG and a security guard entered into a verbal duel over some yet-to-be-ascertained reasons. Later, the student attacked the guard. In the attack, the latter suffered injuries. After coming to know about the incident, the injured guard’s brother reached the spot and attacked the student, leaving him injured. 

The identities of the injured student and the security guard are yet to be ascertained. 

The situation soon turned ugly as some PG students arrived at the scene and staged a demonstration demanding disengagement of the security firm. 

On being informed, the inspector in charge (IIC) of Burla police station along with a team reached the spot and tried to pacify the irate students. 

When contacted over the phone, VIMSAR superintendent Lalmohan Nayak said, “We came to know that some security guards and attendants attacked the PG students. I met the injured student whose condition is out of danger. The students are demanding the removal of the security organisation. We will take a decision after discussing it with both parties. Policemen have been deployed to check further escalation of the situation”

At the time of filing the report, tension was still prevailing on the campus.
