Medical student from West Bengal found hanging in college hostel in Bhubaneswar

A female student of a private medical college was found hanging in her hostel room under mysterious circumstances in Bhubaneswar on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Moubani Das who hailed from Haripal village in Hooghly district of neighbouring West Bengal.

She was a second-year BDS student at a medical college located in Bharatpur police limits. The exact cause of her death was not ascertained immediately. Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death was registered and a probe has been launched in this connection.

“She was a BDS second-year student. We were informed that she died by suicide,” said an inconsolable father of the girl as tears rolled down his eyes.

“She had talked to her mother over the phone at around 12.30. We are astounded as there was no family dispute or any kind of ragging or study pressure. We don’t know whom she had made her last phone call to. The cops have seized her mobile phone,” said her uncle.

When asked if she might have taken the extreme step over some love affair, the deceased’s father and uncle stated that they were unaware if she was in a relationship and the police were probing the case from all angles.
