Medical ransacked in Odisha as 5-month-old 'dies after routine vaccination'

Tension prevailed at Buguda Community Health Centre (CHC) in Ganjam district after some locals ransacked the hospital alleging medical negligence.

Sources said that Magi Naik’s five-month-old child died at home in Neliabandha sahi in Buguda hours after it was administered the vaccine at the CHC under government guidelines on Wednesday.

The child was administered the vaccine on Wednesday morning. However, its body went cold by the night. By the time it was taken to the hospital, the child had already died.

While the exact reason for the death was not known immediately, the family alleged that the death was due to vaccination at the hospital.

Following the death, agitated family members and locals of Neliabandha blamed medical authorities and ransacked the hospital on Wednesday night.

Police reached the spot and pacified the agitating family members.

Medical authorities were unavailable for comments in this connection.
