In a unique protest, the residents of Ghuntibani village under Kaptipada block in Mayurbhanj district planted paddy saplings on a slushy road to express their resentment over government apathy.

The protesting villagers alleged that the road connecting Pandu Chhak and Ghuntibila has now turned into a slushy track making it difficult to commute daily on the route.

Even after raising the issue before the Sarpanch and Block officials several times, all their cries have fallen to deaf ears, the villagers alleged.

Sans motorable road, neither students can go to school nor can ambulance reach their village, a protest alleged.

“The road has now turned into a slushy track making it really tough for us to commute daily. We have raised the matter before concerned authorities but in vain. Finding no other option, we have resorted to this unique protest,” said Parbati Hembram, a resident of Ghuntibani village.

“The unavailability of a motorable road has doubled our trouble. Neither a vehicle can reach our village, nor students can go to school. We have been suffering from the problem since last two years. Even after, bringing the matter to the notice of the sarpanch, he did not pay heed to our plight,” Raisen Hembram, another villager alleged.
