Fire mishap
A massive fire broke out at a pressure cooker godown at Satyanagar in Bhubaneswar on Monday evening.
On being informed, two fire engines reached the spot and the firefighters launched an operation to control the fire. Later, a robot called Fire-Fighting Robotic Monitor was also pressed into service.
At the time of filing the report, the operation was underway.
While all goods in the godown were destroyed in the fire, the cause of the mishap was yet to be ascertained.
Though the local people first spotted smoke billowing from the godown they couldn’t do anything to put out the fire as it was closed. According to them, the fire engulfed the godown within 15 minutes. They also alleged that the fire engine also took 20 to 25 minutes to reach the spot. Had the fire engine arrived a bit earlier, the fire wouldn’t have spread.
“Since the godown had lots of materials in it, it is taking time to control the fire. But it is being controlled and soon we will take it. After investigation, we will inform you what caused the mishap,” said Ramesh Majhi, deputy fire officer.
