The mortal remains of deceased Odia jawan Pratap Ranjan Parida of Malla village of Badatara Panchayat under Gop block in Puri district will be consigned to flames on Monday.

The martyr will be accorded a full state honor during his cremation after his body arrives in a special aircraft in Bhubaneswar. Afterward, his body will be taken to his ancestral village for the last rites.

Parida’s elder brother is working with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) while his younger brother had died in a road mishap two years ago. He is survived by a son and a daughter.

The family members of Parida were informed about his death by the BSF officials. They were told that Parida was heading towards a ghat from Sura camp when he fell into a roadside ditch on Sunday.

While the reason for Parida’s death is still a mystery, a pall of gloom descended on the village as the news broke.

His widow, Satyabhama Parida who is inconsolable after getting the news of his husband’s death, said, “Whenever he spoke with me over phone, he used to disconnect it after sometime by saying he is getting another call from Bangladesh. This time too, he told me he was getting a call from Bangladesh and hung up. I tried to call him afterward but his phone was switched off. Later in the night a call from his unit came and they informed me that my husband has died by falling in a well.”

“My husband has been murdered in the camp. I want CBI enquiry so that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” she demanded.
