Marriage feast turns 'fatal': Child dead, four critical in Odisha’s Malkangiri

In a tragic incident, a child died and four others were taken ill after allegedly eating at a feast at a marriage party at Nuaguda village under Malkangiri’s Mathili block.

The deceased and the injured are reportedly from the same family.

As per reports, Dhana Nali from Bandhaguda village went to the neighbouring Nuaguda village to attend a marriage party with her four children.

However, they were all taken ill after returning from the marriage party. The family members were initially admitted to Mathili hospital for treatment. But they were shifted to Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) later.

One of the four children died while undergoing treatment at Malkangiri hospital. Others are still admitted to the hospital and are being treated.

“We had gone to eat in a feast. I did not want to go, but my elder daughter insisted. So we went there and ate,” said Dhana Nali, the mother of the deceased.

Asked about the patients and their treatment, Doctor Devi Prasad Nath at Malkangiri DHH said, “We asked her relatives the details about the circumstances they were all referred to this hospital. They could not clearly tell us. But after repeated questions, they admitted that they had eaten something bad. They are probably from one family.”
