After a brief gap, Maoists again made their presence felt in Paikmal jungle under Bargarh district when they fired at the security forces on Friday morning.

As per reports, the security forces were undertaking a combing operation in the Paikmal jungle when the Maoists fired shots at them ensuing a gun battle between them.

Following the fire exchange, senior police officials including district SP, IGP of Northern Range have moved to the spot.

The police have not shared any information about any casualty or injury from either side.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Maoist division from Chhattisgarh was active in the jungles of Bargarh. But they were silent for some months and there was not any extremist activity.

But their presence in the jungle has yet again been established by the gun battle.

Recently, several jawans of the Special Operations Group (SOG) were reportedly injured in an IED explosion during a search operation at Nalikumpa jungle under Boudh’s Kantamal police limits on Thursday.

The IED was suspected to be planted by the Maoists.
