Maoist infrastructure hit; 3 bunkers destroyed on Odisha–Jharkhand border

In a major success against Left-Wing Extremism, 209 COBRA Battalion busted three Maoist bunkers during an intensive combing operation in Saranda forest along Odisha- Jharkhand border.

According to officials, the bunkers were discovered in a remote and densely forested area, believed to have been used as shelter and storage facilities by Maoist cadres.

Security personnel recovered a large quantity of Maoist materials from the sites, including wires, batteries, black flags, dress and Tiffin boxes, Chaibasa police informed. The operation was launched following intelligence inputs about Maoist presence in the region.

Acting swiftly, the COBRA team moved deep into the forest, cordoning off the suspected locations before unearthing the hideouts.

Saranda forest, known as a long-time Maoist stronghold, has been a key target for security forces in their efforts to curb insurgency.

Officials said the discovery dealt a significant blow to the Maoists’ operational capabilities in the area. Combing operations have since been intensified to track down remaining cadres and dismantle any other hideouts.

It is worthwhile to mention here that, a railway employee was killed, and another was critically injured in an IED blast triggered by Maoists between Karampada (Jharkhand) and Renjeda (Odisha) on last Sunday morning.
