2 critical patients shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack
In the latest development in the mango kernel tragedy which claimed two lives and left six critical in Kandhamal, two of the patients undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCGMCH) in Berhampur have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital(SCBMCH) in Cuttack after their health condition deteriorated on Sunday.
According to a source, the two critical women patients are presently being treated at the Department of Medicine, in SCBMCH.
“While one of the patients is complaining of abdominal pain and vomiting, the other has a fever and is feeling drowsy. Necessary treatments are being provided to them. It will be difficult to say whether they have fallen sick after consuming mango kernel or not,” said Dr Sushant Kumar Jena, head of the hepatology department of SCBMCH.
Dr Jayant Panda, head of the Medicine department at the hospital said, “The two patients who were referred from MKCGMCH to SCBMCH, are undergoing treatment at the ICU of the Medicine department. They have a fever and all symptoms of liver damage.”
At present four persons are undergoing treatment at the MKCGMCH.
Meanwhile, a team of Kandhamal district administration comprising Daringbadi BDO and Tehsildar visited Mandipanka village and provided ex-gratia to the family members of the deceased and financial assistance to the critical patients.
While Red Cross provided Rs 30,000 ex-gratia to the family members of the deceased, the critically ill patients were provided Rs 10,000 financial assistance.
Notably, two women died and six others were taken ill after consuming mango kernel at Mandipanka village under Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district.
