After spending 20 agonising hours in a tree hollow, a man, who was washed away in the Malkangiri floods, was rescued by a joint team of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, Fire Services and Police on Wednesday.
The man has been identified as Irma Madkami from Murbanpalli village under Girikanpalli panchayat in the district.
As per reports, Irma was swept away while recovering his boat in Poteru river. Helpless Irma somehow managed to save his life by clinging to a tree. He took shelter in the tree hollow and remained there throughout the night.
After the water level of the river receded a little bit, a joint team of ODRAF, Fire Services and police rescued Irma after 20 hours.
After being rescued, Irma was admitted to a nearby hospital. Later, he was discharged from the hospital after getting some treatment. His condition is stated to be stable.
