In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old man got swept away in front of his mother while immersing Ganesh idol in Nababali River in Rayagada district on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar of Mankadajhola area.

The incident occurred near Chekaguda Bridge. As per initial reports, Ashok had gone to the river along with his mother for the immersion ceremony. He got swept away while immersing the idol in the middle of the river.

In another incident, three persons were injured in a cracker explosion during the Vishwakarma immersion ceremony in Dasapalla of Nayagarh district. Sources said a procession was being taken out from Guhuriapada village and it was scheduled to reach Kuanria River for the immersion.

However, three persons sustained injuries in a firecracker explosion when the procession reached the Trinath Bazaar area. Following the incident, Fire Services personnel rescued the injured and admitted them to Dasapalla community health centre. Later one of the injured was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
