Man stabs wife after some dispute in Rayagada; accused absconding

In a shocking incident, a woman suffered critical injuries after she was allegedly stabbed by her husband at Nadi Sahi village in Rayagada district on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Basanti Behera. She has been admitted to Bhadrak Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.

As per reports, there was some dispute between the accused Pradeep Behera, and his wife Basanti over some issues. It led to a heated exchange of words between both of them. Following the development, Pradeep lost his cool and stabbed Basanti with a knife.

Basanti has sustained multiple injuries including on the stomach and hand.

Accused Pradeep is on the run following the incident. Neighbours of Basanti rushed her to the hospital immediately where she is currently undergoing treatment.

On getting information, Rayagada police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.

However, the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.

“We don’t know the exact reason behind the assault. Basanti has sustained serious injuries in her belly and hand. After we came to know about the incident, we immediately brought her to the hospital,” said the victim’s sister-in-law Minakshi Behera.
