Man stabs nephew to death, injures 4 relatives in Puri; absconding

In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly stabbed his nephew to death and left four others seriously injured in a deadly knife attack near Tatambari Akhada Mutt at Upara Malisahi in Puri district on Wednesday.

The accused has been identified as Nursingha Mohanty.

As per reports, Nursingha attacked his family members with a knife over some dispute.

While the nephew of the accused, Soumya Ranjan Pradhan died on the spot, his wife, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and her husband sustained serious injuries. The injured were admitted to the nearby hospital.

The husband of the accused’s sister-in-law was shifted to Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.

The accused is on the run after committing the crime.

Upon being informed, Kumbharapada police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.

“My husband used to thrash me. I have lodged several cases against him. As many as three cases in this regard are sub-judice for the last four years. He also used to threaten my family members,” said the wife of the accused, Nandini Mohanty.
