A woman allegedly brutally assaulted, tortured, and kept her husband locked up for eight days under dire conditions, following which he was rescued by local police.
The shocking incident has been reported from Bijepur village under the Birikot area of Adaba police station in Gajapati district.
According to reports, a long-standing marital dispute existed between Kastantin Parichha and his wife, Pran Ranjani Parichha.
The discord reportedly took an untoward turn after Ranjani began subjecting her husband to torture, whose intensity kept increasing over time, alleged the man’s family.
After Kastantin’s family realized the matter, they reported it to the police, following which authorities intervened and rescued Kastantin from a locked room.
The man was given primary treatment in Birikot but his condition was found to be critical, following which he was shifted to Mohana Community Health Center (CHC) for medical treatment.
Doctor Sameer Tripathy narrated the man’s ordeal after learning it from him. “He was not provided regular food but rather only once about every four days. The patient is currently stable but in a very weak state and is unable to walk. His condition will be monitored after giving injections and IV fluids and further steps will be decided accordingly.”

A weak Kastantin also stated that “Arguments and tension used to break out over petty issues every day. She, her family members, and relatives used to come and beat me up. I have been unable to get any sleep. I was kept locked by a grilled verandah and was rescued by police today.”
No statement from the man's wife or the police has been obtained yet in connection with the incident.
