Police team at the crime site in Dhenkanal
A man was killed and his 18-year-old son was critically injured in a group attack in Krushnaprasad village under Dhenkanal district Sadar police station limits on Sunday.
Sources reported that a dispute arose between Chatturbhuj Jena and another man over the setting up of a shop at a particular location allegedly belonging to the government.
A heated altercation had occurred earlier in the day between Jena and the opposing members, reportedly from another village, but they were pacified by locals.
However, a group then returned to the spot and attacked the father-son duo. The attackers were stated to be residents of Krushnaprasad and Jhumpudia villages, as per sources.
Jena succumbed to his injuries whereas his son, Om Prakash Jena, sustained serious wounds in the attack, stated reports.
“About 6 months ago one Ritu Jena and his associates stopped Chatturbhuj from setting up a shop here. Today, when they were doing the same, Chatturbhuj approached them and an argument broke out. Despite being resolved and pacified, Ritu Jena returned later with a group and carried out this attack,” stated Gatikrushna Jena, brother of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old boy’s health deteriorated and he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in critical condition.
Police from Bhapur outpost and a scientific team visited the scene and initiated an investigation. However, no official statement from the police has been released yet.
