In a shocking incident, a man jumped with his nine-month-old child into Sidhua river at Sainda village in Cuttack district on Sunday.

While the baby was rescued by local people, the man has not be traced so far. The baby has been admitted to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

As per reports, the man has been identified as Prakash Chandra Pradhan. He was a resident of Kandarpur area. However, he was staying in his father-in-law’s house. Pradhan reportedly took the extreme step over a family feud. 

The man reportedly took his wife and child to visit a temple. However, following a quarrel among them on the way, he decided to commit suicide by jumping into the river with his child. When, his wife prevented him, he attacked her with a piece of stone.

Local people saw the man jumping into the river along with the child. They rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the baby immediately. However, they could not save the man who was washed away by the swift current of the river. Subsequently, they informed the fire services personnel and Cuttack Sadar police who reached the spot immediately. The fire services personnel are carrying out a search operation to trace the man.
