A massive search operation was launched on Thursday after a man allegedly jumped into Baitarani river with his minor daughter in Bhadrak district.

As per sources, the father-daughter jumped into the river from Akhuapada bridge under Bhandari Pokhari block in the district on Wednesday evening.

The man has been identified as Chandan Sahu, a resident of Paramanandpur village under Balipokhari Gram Panchayat.

As per reports, Chandan and his daughter came on a motorcycle and jumped into the river from Baitarani bridge last night.

Chandan’s bike, mobile and shoes were found lying on the bridge.

On being informed, the police along with fire brigade personnel reached the spot and tried to launch a search operation to trace the father-daughter duo. However, the operation could not be carried out due to darkness. The search operation was launched this morning.

“When I called him, he said he would return home within an hour. Next time, when I tried to contact him, his daughter spoke with me. She said she and her father had come to end their lives,” said Chandan’s mother while crying inconsolably.

Meanwhile, a telephonic conversation purportedly between Chandan and his elder sister has gone viral. In the viral audio, Chandan can be heard saying to his sister that he and his daughter have come a long way to end their lives by jumping into the river. He can also be heard asking his sister not to say anything about his step to anyone.

As per sources, Chandan’s wife had died at Surat in Gujarat a few months back. However, under which circumstances Chandan and his minor daughter jumped into river is yet to be ascertained.
