Man impersonating Union Minister’s nephew dupes job aspirants in Odisha

A youth has been detained by police in Bhubaneswar on Thursday for allegedly duping lakhs of rupees from many people by impersonating him as the nephew of a Union Minister.

The accused has been identified as Rahul Sahu. Though Rahul is claiming to be a resident of Talcher area, his exact whereabouts is yet to be confirmed.

As per reports, the accused has allegedly duped lakhs of rupees from several people by assuring them of jobs, facilitating transfers and ownership of petrol pumps. He owned the confidence of some gullible people by creating social media accounts by posting his photographs with a Union Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha.

However, some persons, who have been duped by the accused, became suspicious of him due to certain reasons. They caught Rahul from a hotel and handed him over to the police at the Capital Police station. Police have detained Sahu and his questioning is currently underway.

“Rahul has duped money from my friend by assuring him transfer. However, when we grew suspicious of him as he was impersonating him as the nephew Union Minister and later blocked our phone numbers. We went to some hotels and found him in an inebriated condition. We caught him and handed him over to the police. CVs and photographs of many people and a government letter pad were found from his possesion,” said a victim's friend.

“Rahul is in no way connected with the party and he has no relationship with any political leaders. He was duping lakhs of rupees from the unemployed youth and other people by giving them false promises,” said another person cheated by Rahul.
