A man died on Wednesday after the scooter he was riding was hit by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Niranjan Bishi’s car near Tamian Square under Patnagarh police limits in Bolangir district.

The deceased has been identified as Tankadhara Biswal of Inapur village in Larambha.

While it was alleged that Bishi was inside the vehicle when the mishap occurred, the parliamentarian, however, denied the allegations.

Bishi clarified that he was not in the vehicle when it hit the scooter rider. In fact, the driver was returning home after dropping Bishi when the incident happened, he said.

Speaking to OTV, Bishi said, “I had gone to Khaprakhol last night to attend Sital Sasthi Yatra. The driver was returning to his village after dropping me home when the mishap occurred. I was not in the vehicle.”

“A scooter rider came in front of the vehicle from the wrong side and hit my car,” he added.

Patnagarh police has launched a probe in this connection to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the mishap.
