A woman and her newborn baby boy ended up at a one stop centre after her husband and in-laws allegedly abandoned her at the hospital soon after childbirth. The shocking incident took place at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital.

The victim has been identified as Dali Mallick who hails from Ghatakula village under Madusudanpur Gram Pachayat under Binjharpur police station. She had tied the nuptial knot with Chandan Mallick, who is a resident of Nagamatha village under Aul block in Kendrapara district, in 2021.

Dali was admitted to the hospital on January 1 and subsequently, she gave birth to a baby boy. However, Chandan and his family members allegedly fled away from the hospital leaving Dali and the newborn boy due to an earlier family feud.

Subsequently, Jajpur police was informed about the development. Both the mother and the newborn baby have been handed over to one-stop centre following the intervention of the police.

“After admitting me to the hospital, my husband and in-laws fled away. Whenever I am dialling my husband, he is not picking my calls. He often said that he had married another lady and didn’t accept me anymore. I want justice,” said Dali.

“We saw the woman crying at the hospital. We came to know that her husband and in-laws had abandoned her at the hospital. We could only give her some food and tell her some soothing words. What else could we do? The administration should extend her helping hand to the helpless woman,” said Sarada Das, an attendant in the hospital.

As per sources, police are trying to reconcile the couple after counseling both of them. Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has stated that action will be taken against Chandan for neglecting his wife and newborn baby and leaving them in a helpless condition at the hospital.
