Maha Snana rituals of Goddess Tara Tarini performed
‘Maha Snana’ (bathing rituals) of Maa Tara Tarini was performed in Ganjam on Friday as per the tradition after some miscreants defiled the idol of the Goddess during the recent theft incident in the temple.
Earlier a couple of days back, some unidentified miscreants had broken into the Tara Tarini temple complex and decamped with ornaments worth lakhs of rupees.
As per temple sources, Goddess Tara Tarini was bathed with 108 pitchers of water as part of the ‘Maha Snana’ ritual amid chanting of mantras by the servitors.
Earlier, the women members of the servitors’ families gathered on the bank of Rushikulya river following which certain rituals were performed. Subsequently, 108 pitchers of water were brought from the river to the temple to perform ‘Maha Snana’ rituals of the Goddess.
After the completion of all the rituals, devotees were allowed to have darshan of the Goddess.
“Following the unfortunate incident, ‘Maha Snana’ ritual of Tara Tarini was performed praying for the betterment of the world and Ganjam,” said a servitor of the temple.
The theft at the temple came to light when some servitors reached the temple in the morning and found the locks of the main gate and the metal grills broken.
Later, the head priest of the temple informed that the miscreants decamped with various silver ornaments and other valuables.
